Mandarin Tone Coloring

Mandarin Tone Coloring is an add-on for Google Docs that uses the Dummit coloring scheme to help you learn Mandarin (simplified Chinese characters). The add-on allows you to color Hànzì characters based on their tone (1, 2, 3, 4, or neutral tone), providing a visual representation of the tone system in Mandarin.

With Mandarin Tone Coloring, you can easily color text you've highlighted with your cursor or color the full text. Depending on the length of your document, coloring the full text may take a few moments to complete. Once the text is colored, you can use the colored characters to practice your Mandarin pronunciation and improve your language skills.

The Mandarin Tone Coloring dictionary includes Hànzì characters from various sources, including

• HSK1-5

• 197 country names

• 100 most common Chinese last names

• 150 most common Chinese first names

• Dao De Jing (道德经)

• Art of War (孫子兵法)

The dictionary will be regularly updated to include more characters and sources to help you expand your Mandarin vocabulary.

To use Mandarin Tone Coloring, simply add the add-on through the Google Workspace Marketplace and access it from the menu: Extension → Mandarin Tone Coloring → (option). The add-on also includes a sidebar with buttons to color characters, making it easy to use and customize to your needs.
